The sun is high in the sky. The lake is whispering your name. And the days feel like they’ll never end.

Summertime is finally here!

For many, that means it’s time to party like a rockstar. We stay up and out later than normal. We don’t sleep as much. And we crowd the calendar with activity. And that’s great! We’re supposed to. Our bodies like being active in the daylight, so it makes sense that when there’s more of it, we want to get out there and play.

Spending more time doing and less time resting, however, even when it’s more natural to do so, doesn’t mean we won’t feel run down. That’s where eating well comes in, and how we can take full advantage of all the summer has to offer without feeling exhausted. And more importantly, without taking a step backward.

Grill

Truly brave souls grill all year round. The rest of us save the fire for the summer. And that’s great!

Grilling is a great way to make a ton of meat in advance. That way, you’ll never be left wanting a healthy meal when time is short. The next time you fire up the grill, don’t think about a meal, think about how many meals ahead you can prepare. And don’t worry if you’re a vegetarian, grilling meatless options like these, and plenty of veggies, tastes great.

Make A Salad

Sometimes it’s tough to eat a hot meal after a scorching day. That’s where salads come in.

Salads are light, full of nutrients, and often served cold. The perfect summertime meal. Some of them, like my favorite here (take out the corn to keep it paleo), are even excellent as leftovers. Make more than you think you need, and enjoy for days to come.

Bank Calories

Many of us have been sold on eating small meals throughout the day. While that may work for some, it’s certainly not the only way to improve. Especially during the summertime.

When it’s hot and we’re active eating makes us sluggish, uncomfortable and moody. So skip it! If you know you can handle going a while without food, simply drink water from the time you awake until dinnertime. Then, when you finally have cooled off enough to feed, feel free to eat more quality food than normal. Think of it as banking all those morning and afternoon calories for the evening. You’ll typically eat fewer Calories over the entire day, sleep better and be more productive.

Experiment with the tips above so you can take advantage of the long days because there’s nothing worse than having fun things to do, and feeling too drained to do them.
