The Path To Better Health Is Grueling With Lots Of Shiny Things, Confusing Advice, And Warm Bodies Getting In The Way

But when we focus on what really works instead of what we wish worked, the path narrows, and we gain momentum.

We don’t get to define healthy any way we like.

That should be obvious — if we make up the meaning of our words to suit our desire, we lose the tremendous power of language and our ability to communicate.

“The limit of my language is the limit of my world,” Ludwig Wittgenstein famously said. He meant that we should expand our vocabulary, and while he’s right, we should also preserve its boundaries. Constricting and tightly identifying objects is what we’re created for.

The problem is when we can agree on the general idea of healthy, but not about how to get there.

Shouldn’t it be simpler? Shouldn’t everything be simpler?

Shouldn’t there be a standardized method that rockets us straight to healthy? Sure. There should be a lot of things, but there aren’t.
