The #1 Reason You Need A Coach
Half measures don’t work, and there’s no such thing as moderately committed.
We see them on the sidelines and hear them above the players.
We thank them when they help us navigate a tough time, learn a new skill, or remind us of the person we were meant to be.
We call them teacher and guide and sensei and coach, but it all means the same thing — someone who wants us to improve just as much, maybe more, than we do.
Coaches are objective. Coaches are passionate. Coaches want what’s best for their students. But above all, coaches worry.
That’s the #1 reason you need a coach, and I do too. Because coaches worry so we don’t have to.
That doesn’t mean all responsibility is removed from the student. Quite the opposite, in fact. It means that the first priority of anyone looking to learn anything from anyone is giving up.
Students must be willing to say, “here are my goals, my doubts, my endless anxiety, and fractured feelings. You take them. I don’t want them anymore.”
Only then, when the athlete is willing to get out of their own way, will they reach their full potential.
