Stubborn is for show.

A favorite t-shirt we wear when we want attention. When we want everyone else to tell us how good we look.

Discipline is different.

Discipline lives in the dark. In the habits we maintain when no one is watching. The little things that go unnoticed, everyday actions that survive uncelebrated.

When it’s convenient, fits our lifestyle, and suits us, we wear stubbornness like a badge of honor.

It’s when it takes effort, when we’re tired, angry, and forgotten, that stubborn fails.

That’s when discipline takes over.

When what we’ve practiced day in and day out removes the need for motivation, exposing who we really are, leaving only the action itself. The thing we know we should do. The thing we can do.

Stubborn screams, “look at me, I’m so dedicated, I’m pushing myself!” Then it eats a gallon of ice creme to get through the “tough times.”

Discipline whispers, “I’m doing this for me, not you.” Then it shows up the next day, tough times or not, and gets to work. And the day after that. And the day after that.

Stubborn is for show. Discipline is for the determined.
