“I feel stupid,” Ray said.

“I know,” I confirmed. “I did too, at first. But think of it like this, some of the best athletes in the world practice these same tactics.”

Ray’s chronic pain was real and as long-lasting as a tattoo. But his progress was real too, so we pushed ahead.

“I just want to stop hurting.”

“Then start paying attention to how you talk.”

Today, hyperbole, exaggeration, and flat-out deception rule the land. Not only has much of the population completely forgotten the definition of “literally,” but too many of us can’t even have a conversation without click-baiting our vocabulary with inflated descriptions and attention-grabbing headlines.
