Future Focused
You can’t just go in and lift all the weights every day, run all the miles, do all the pull-ups, and hope for the best.
When I was young, I sketched images of superheroes.
I named the first “Relentless.”
Some could fly, some were fast, and many were invincible. My favorites were omnipotent.
Looking back, I was adding characteristics to each hero I wanted. Mutations that, fantastical or not, I hoped I’d acquire one day.
Sadly, today, I can’t fly, read minds, or pick up cars … yet. And if I’m being honest, I kinda hate that.
But I can appreciate thinking about the future as a list of abilities I want, then work towards that future today.
That’s how I workout out and coach athletes — mindful of today while focusing on the future.
Say I want to deadlift 300 pounds when I’m 80 years old. Not only does that mean I have to do the things today that will increase my chances of making it to 80 — eat right…
