It takes getting really quiet and asking yourself lots of questions. Writing helps, so does actually listening to your answer. Not the answers you think you should give, the real ones that ignore the world and all its crap.

Of course, this doesn’t happen in a single session. It takes multiple tries and several revisions to get to the point. That’s a good thing. It means it’s genuine. It means there’s no noise.
