Concessions Compound

It’s easy to think the answer is more self-control. But many would disagree.

When was the last time you took a bath in birthday cake? Or skipped a week’s worth of workouts? Or missed a deadline at work?

Basically, when was the last time you did something you didn’t want to do?

Whatever it was, hold that event in your mind. Now work backward. What specific actions, no matter how trivial, did you commit before falling off the wagon?

Did you drive past your favorite donut shop? Did you INSTA-surf longer than you should have? Did you hit snooze, miss your workout, forget your lunch, and face dive into a plate of delicious brownies.

That’s how concessions work — they start small, a little compromise here, another there. “It’s no big deal,” we tell ourselves.

And maybe it’s not.

But concessions compound. A little becomes a lot, and before we know it, it’s been two weeks since we even flirted with a single goal.
