Clap The Dread Away.
It’s as simple as clapping my hands when a negative mindset appears over me like a dark cloud.
It used to be worse.
Dread. Random, baseless, and malicious, a feeling you just can’t shake that makes you want to vomit, quit, and never try again.
Some days I expected it, like humidity after summer rain. Other days I’d just wake up with it, like a sore throat in the fall.
And for what? There’s no good answer.
I suppose some people just get in their heads about everything. Others don’t. Perhaps that’s why I like to write. Helps release the tension. Helps free up some space and gives those ruminations a chance to breathe.
But so does Thought Stopping, a technique I picked up forever ago.
Some call it Cognitive Behavior Therapy. But for me, it’s as simple as clapping my hands when a negative mindset appears over me like a dark cloud.
It takes some practice, and you might feel a little silly at first, but keep on it. Use it during workouts. Use it when something big is on the horizon. Use it like I do when Dread comes calling.
