Everything until then is just practice.
It sounds weird, but I’ve practiced eating since I started training twenty-some years ago. Sometimes, I add protein, and sometimes, I skip the carbs. For years at a time, I’ve avoided pizza, ice cream, donuts, and Reese’s Pumpkins.
I still log my food every day. I still note little differences. I still fiendishly pay attention to the results without connecting them to a reward or identity.
That last part is essential.
Writing is the same.
For the past twenty years, I’ve written every morning, evening, and often in between. I’ve published one non-fiction and finished several more that may never see the light of day. I have more than three titles in the works today, plus a handful of articles. But I…
