4 Fascinating Things That Happened When I Started Eating Breakfast Again

Plot twist. I skipped the most important meal of the day for 14 years.

I started time-restricted eating in 2007. We called it intermittent fasting then.

The iPhone had just come out. Youtube was barely two. And most people were carrying around coolers of Tupperware stuffed with chicken and rice.

“Eat several small meals a day,” we said.

“Stoke the fire,” we said.

Did that. Hated it.

Yeah, the small portions sucked, and eating every two hours was a chore, but it was the breakfast that really got me. I’ve just never been a fan. So when I decided to reduce my eating window to eight hours, it was breakfast that got the axe.

Eleven AM, I decided, was to be my first meal of the day. My BREAK-the-FAST meal. That put dinner at 7 pm. I went from eight small meals each day to two big meals overnight. A protocol I’ve maintained for 14 years.

Until three months ago, that is, when I decided to put breakfast back on the menu.

The test was simple: see if eating more protein overall, and introducing it earlier in the day, adds muscle. I got the idea here.
