3 Things That Happened When I Started Releasing My Psoas Every Day

What does it feel like if the psoas is too tight versus weak? Simple, it feels like pressure.

Muscles mean motion.

Small motions, big motions, always motions, sometimes motions, locomotions, and everything in between.

Unless something’s wrong and the muscle that’s supposed to do a particular job is on strike, leaving its friends to do all the work.

Often we let minor issues like these fester until they’re big problems that force us into action. Issues like a tight psoas.

Psoas Primer

The psoas is a deep muscle in the body that connects the upper and lower body.

It helps flex the hip, stabilize the spine, and is essential for correct posture while standing, sitting, running, and walking.

Enough anatomy.

What does it feel like if the psoas is too tight versus weak? Simple, it feels like pressure that goes away after the appropriate amount of manual therapy.

That means watch the clip above, grab a tool, and get to work for ONE minute. I do it every morning, and here’s what I’ve noticed.

Back Relief

I don’t have back issues. But every so often, my lower back feels “tight.” Tight enough, I’m aware of it.

But not when I release my psoas each morning. When I do that, it doesn’t feel like anything.

Explore More

A minute is nothing. So I always turn my minute of maintenance into more and put work into some other tight muscle begging for relief.

Better Performance

I notice it most during toe-to-bar. Since releasing my psoas each morning, I can get a handful more reps before stopping.

Then, and more importantly, I don’t feel like it hurts to cough after tons of midline work.

It’s one of those things that’s so simple you almost skip it. Until you make it a habit and reap the rewards.
